Animal Cruelty: Genre Analysis of a YouTube Video and a Website
All over the world today we have an extended abuse of animals of all
sorts. The way people have viewed
animals has drastically changed over time, and overall has taken its toll on the
innocent, harmless animals. Having the right to own animals has dramatically
changed people into thinking they can do whatever they want to them. This right
of giving people who have the money to own animals has made populations all over
the world either great or horrible. For example, people who still use their
stock to plow dirt for plantation purposes, has changed into people using
animals in extreme conditions. Thankfully there is still people who have a heart
and have created a conscious mind in not harming innocent animals.
Having people who promote the rescue of animals in different genres, has
changed the views of many audiences across the world. Genres such as a video
(YouTube), and website have their different types of:
ethos, pathos, and logos. The way they are shaped up to be by their color
distinction or even its purpose is how people are going to react to it. Using a
simple YouTube video that promotes people into helping the cause of saving
animals, and a website of an organization that helps the cause of animal rescue.
Will defiantly be a contrast, and similarities in both on how effectively they
can convey their message across to an audience. Analyzing the qualities of each
genre will unlimitedly be the decision on which genre is the more effective
one.
Purpose and Audience
The video shows how animals are being mistreated and conveys its
message by showing mistreated dongs, and shows statistics on how many animals
are being killed.. The intended audience for this genre are people who may want
to know statistics about animals,
and also may want to see a quick video of the conditions these animals are being
put through. They may want to know these kinds of statistics for a school
assignment, or may just want to know for there self-knowledge. In this genre a
person may average about two minutes in watching the video. If the person is
really interested in the content of the genre, then the person may take around
three minutes. The main purpose of this genre is to inform, although some
audience may view this as a method of persuading them to help the cause of
animal rescue.
The organization ASPCA has a website that has a direct weblink
into donating money. The intended
audience for this genre are people who are interested and willing to donate
money to ASPCA, also people who want know more about the causes of this
organization. This audience may already know that the organization are loyal in
the cause of animal cruelty. They may also know that through this website they
can make a direct donation that is reliable and safe. What they may not know
that there are plenty of tabs that offer more in depth information about the
organizations foundation, and causes. The people can most likely spend around
twenty-five to thirty minutes reading all the tabs the website has to offer.
Making a donation may take around five minutes filling out all the important
information. The purpose of this genre is to inform people about their morals,
and history about the organization. It is also to persuade people into donating
money. It may also be used as entertainment due to the fact that they have
pictures of animals they have rescued. The main contrasting and comparing points
are that both genres give a great persuading points of view, but for some people
having time to look at a video may be too boring or just childish. Making the
website more suitable for information of facts and also has more a credible
background than the video
Rhetorical Issues: Ethos, Pathos and
Logos
In
the video genre there was not really much credibility. To some people seeing his
video may be entertaining but may not be a credible source of information. In
many audience the emotion of compassion and sorrow may be seen, for the fact
that most of the video is seeing animals in poor conditions. Many people
nowadays have a passionate heart and may be commutated by this video to take in
action rescuing animals. In this genre the information given to the audience may
be seen by some as violent. Although there is information mostly all of it is
not backed up by some sort of credibility. There is no organization backing the
information besides the author of the video, but many people are not going to
take their time in looking at the website.
The website provides more proof of it reliability since it has
more of the history background and has been around for several years and trusted
by many years. This genre evokes many people’s emotions, especially animal
lovers. People who like to give donations for the animal cruelty cause. The
genre provides information such as that is it privately funded, and that it is a
non- profit organization. It also talks about that they have over one million
supporters in the cause of animal rescue. To many people this may be seen a
trustworthy source to get information from. The common similarities of both genres
are that they both evoke the emotions of the audience. In contrast is that the
video does not give enough evidence of credibility and may not be
trusted.
Structure
In
this genre the space of the information is two short. Many people may view this
as a limited information source. The time is very short only giving two minutes
of video and one forth of it being information and the rest being images of
animals. The video is well done and structured and well planned. The layout is
well put in showing the conditions of the
animals.
In the website the information is well organized and set up in tabs
across the top of the page. The
way its structure is put out is very import. In the website setting the tabs is
a way of letting people now is professional and it makes it easier on them to
use it. The way the both genres organized there information is very different.
In contrast the video was not enough to give people enough information, also it
does not give enough information to persuade many
people.
Style and Language
In
the video the language is normal, but delivers it information very effectively.
The vocabulary used is not very specialized, especially because it is trying to
evoke the public and persuade them to help the cause of animal rescue. The
animals shown in the video help the provoke people in helping the cause. It
helps also in translating the information given. Overall the main focus of not
using specialized language, and elevated vocabulary is to make it easier for
audience to understand the message they are trying to get acros .
In the website the language
is fairly formal since it intents is to attract the image that it is
professional. The language is not specialized but easy to understand, so that
the audience can understand it easier. The way the layout is set up, having
orange on the background and the font black makes it stand out more, and makes
the audience more interested in the information. In comparison both genres make
it easy on the audience to understand the information, but in contrast the
video produces more features that helps convey the message more
effectively
Conclusion
In conclusion the website was able to have more information,
credibility, structure, and organization. It also was able to motivate more the
people in helping rescue animals.
In the analysis done the website produced more of a delivery in
conveying its message to the public. The organization of the layout in the
website was well organized and gave more of information than the video. Although
both conveyed a message of helping the cause of animal rescue, the website just
gave more of an incentive to persuade people to help. In the analyzing of both
genres is very important to see witch genres are more effective than others, and
the purpose of what a genre is trying to convey. Having the perfect genre for an
organization is very important, since it is the way how you persuade and
communicate to a certain group of audience.
